Experience the Jungfrau Region in Switzerland!

Time for a travel tip! WBE Travel recommend the Jungfrau region in Switzerland: picturesque villages, breathtaking heights, and stunning views.

Jungfrau Region – Ski, Enjoy Mountain Peaks, and Play Secret Agent

Climb one of the mountains that make up the Bernese Alps. With its 4,158 meters, this mountain is the focal point for skiers visiting Mürren, Wengen, and Grindelwald.

You can choose a village based on your interests and size, fly to Zurich, and then take the train or car to one of the villages. Where do you want to go?

1. Grindelwald

The largest town in the area has approximately 4,500 residents. You get here from the airport by car or train. In the area, you’ll find the Michelin-awarded Glacier restaurant, but for those looking to go on an excursion with their meal, Berggasthaus First in combination with the First Cliff Walk is a must.

First Cliff Walk – Not for the Vertigo-Prone

You can reach the restaurant at the mountain’s top via a gondola. During the meal, you can enjoy the view from the large terrace.

Once here, you can take the First Cliff Walk, a walkway with unbeatable views, but not for those with a fear of heights. This “attraction” consists of a metal walkway attached to the side of the mountain.

Grindelwald Glacier Gorge – Chilly Ravine Hike

Once a glacier, now a gorge, but oh so beautiful! Even though the ice is gone, the water stream makes the air cool, so dress warmly and wear comfortable shoes. The hike takes about 2 hours and is perfect on the way to or from the airport.

For the adventurous, there’s the Blue Spiderweb: a 170-square-meter spiderweb hanging 7 meters above the rushing river, giving you a chance to “walk” over the surging water.

TIP! Don’t miss the museum where you can learn about geology and see beautiful stones and crystals from the gorge.

Eiger Express – Enjoy the View While Seated

Eiger Express is the most modern lift in Europe, with 26 seats in each gondola. Each gondola has comfortable seats and windows, and to make the journey even more comfortable, there’s seat heating. There are a total of 42 gondolas used in the lift system.

This impressive lift takes visitors to high mountain heights and offers outstanding panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. Whether you’re a nature lover, hiker, or just want to enjoy the spectacular Alpine views, Eiger Express is an excellent way to experience the majestic beauty of the Swiss Alps.

2. Wengen

The second-largest village, Wengen, is entirely car-free. It’s home to about 900 people, and you can get here by train. From the train station, you can take a stroll while your luggage is transported by electric car.

Lauterbrunnen Valley – one valley, 72 waterfalls

Between Wengen and Mürren, you’ll find the small town of Lauterbrunnen, also known as the “Valley of 72 waterfalls” because it hosts a valley with a total of 72 waterfalls. Around the valley, there’s a hiking trail of approximately 16 kilometers where you can enjoy watching the rushing waters from the different falls.

The most famous among them is the Trümmelbach Waterfalls, which you can reach about halfway along the hiking trail. Trümmelbach Falls consist of 10 waterfalls and are unique among the area’s falls because they are inside the mountain, forming the largest underground waterfall in Europe.

3. Mürren

Mürren is a charming and picturesque mountain village with about 450 residents. It’s a car-free village, accessible only by train or cable car, giving it a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.

The village is a popular destination for hiking, skiing, and other outdoor activities and serves as an excellent starting point for exploring the Jungfrau region.

Schilthorn – The Mountain Peak with a Little Extra

Schilthorn is an impressive mountain peak accessible by cable car from Mürren, offering various hiking opportunities and other mountain activities such as Thrill Walk: a unique and thrilling mountain walk located at Middle Station Birg.

The activity is designed to provide an adrenaline-filled experience for visitors, with sections that include suspension bridges, glass floors, tunnels, and other exciting elements.

Piz Gloria – Eat, Drink, and Enjoy in True Bond Style

The top of Schilthorn is known for its revolving restaurant called Piz Gloria, offering 360-degree views of 200 mountain peaks, including the famous Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.

For James Bond fans, Piz Gloria played a significant role as Bond’s “Safe House” in the film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” Piz Gloria also features an interactive James Bond exhibition where visitors can learn more about the film’s production and see authentic props from the movie.

Tip! For James Bond fans and those who enjoy a classic Martini “shaken, not stirred,” Piz Gloria offers an exciting Martini workshop where you can learn to mix the perfect Martini, just like Agent 007 likes it.
