1. Visit St. John’s Co-Cathedral

One of the most famous cathedrals is St. John’s Co-Cathedral in central Valletta. The cathedral was completed in 1578 and is most famous for its painting by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. The painting is the largest of Caravaggio’s works and the only one signed by him.

2. Take a Boat Trip from Grand Harbour

When you’re so close to the Mediterranean, it’s nearly impossible not to enjoy the water. Valletta’s “Grand Harbour” is a natural harbor that is unusually deep and contains various types of boats. From here, you have the opportunity to rent a catamaran or a motorboat, experience the sea, and the island’s beautiful coast.

Tip! Visit the island of Comino and see the “Blue Lagoon.” Here, you can enjoy crystal-clear waters that are perfect for snorkeling and underwater photography.

3. Visit Nearby Cities

Mdina – the first capital

If you’re up for a short excursion, it’s perfect to head to Mdina. After a 20-minute bus ride, you’ll have traveled over 500 years back in time. The medieval city of Mdina is entirely car-free, earning it the nickname “The Silent City.”

Here, you can enjoy the city’s history in the form of architecture, cathedrals, and museums. For food lovers, there are popular restaurants with incredible views, some of which include Fontanella Tea Garden, Bacchus, and The Medina Restaurant.

Tip! Are you a Game of Thrones fan? Mdina was used in Season 1 as the fictional capital, King’s Landing.

Birgu – the second capital

Birgu, was second in line as the capital of Malta and is one of “The Three Cities of Malta”,

In Birgu you can go for an unusual type of sightseeing called “Rolling Geeks.” With an electric golf cart, that you drive yourself, you’ll be guided through the oldest quarters of Birgu via GPS.
