Experience the Fjords of Bergen!
Time for a travel tip! WBE Travel recommend Bergen – Norway’s second-largest city, also known as the “city of the seven mountains.”
Bergen – Norway’s Second-Largest City, Also Known as the “City of the Seven Mountains”.
Here, there are plenty of places to discover for those who like museums, history, nature, water, hiking, and fishing. Or for those who just want to sit in a café and enjoy a really good “skillingsbolle” (cinnamon bun).
You can fly directly from Arlanda, Amsterdam or Kopenhagen, making Bergen a convenient destination for those who want to be spontaneous, have a short getaway, or simply need a change of scenery.
Bergen is the ultimate destination for those with no more than 2 nights to spare. We recommend traveling to Bergen from April through October to make the most of the city and all its possibilities!
Historical Attractions
What’s typical of Bergen is the houses clinging to the hillsides, narrow cobblestone streets, and historical attractions. Bergen also has medieval origins, which are on UNESCO’s list of world heritage. In this way, the harbor reminds you of the time when Bergen was Norway’s and Europe’s trading center.
The city is located at the end of a fjord and between several high hills and mountain peaks. Here, you can rent a fishing boat for a boat trip on beautiful fjords or take the cable car up to the city’s highest mountain, Ulriken. Ulriken is the highest of the seven mountains, standing at 643 meters above sea level. When you stand here and look out over the sea, you clearly understand where the nickname “The Capital of the Fjords” comes from.
what can I do in Bergen?
1. Bryggen – Travel Back in Time
The city center, the Bryggen area, is known for its beautiful wooden houses. Here, you can eat incredibly delicious fish, just like in the rest of the city. Stroll through Bryggen’s narrow alleys and get the feeling of stepping back in time. Here, you can experience a cultural heritage that is still in use, a living historic area.
2. Fløibanen – Experience the Fjords in 7 Minutes
For those who want to hike, there are fantastic hiking trails to discover. A very popular attraction is the Fløibanen mountain railway. The attraction goes all the way from the center to the top of the Fløyen mountains in just seven minutes. From the viewpoint, you can overlook the city, fjords, and mountains, and then have a delicious meal at the restaurant or visit the souvenir shop. Take the Fløibanen back or continue even higher into the mountains.
3. Fish Market – the Most Visited Outdoor Market
We would also like to highlight the lively fish market, one of Norway’s most visited outdoor markets. Here, you can enjoy delicious Norwegian fish or just soak in the fantastic atmosphere.
